Test Purpose
This test will verify if the Molex inputs which are used to connect hall or encoder sensors are functioning properly.
| Note: | This test is applicable only to encoder and Hall inputs mapped to the Molex port. Other types of encoder inputs (for example, encoder inputs on PMSM drives or Channel 3 encoder inputs on DC drives) should be tested as general-purpose inputs. |
Test Process
To perform the test, follow the next steps:
Case 1: Hall sensors on Molex Inputs
- Use a wire and connect sequentially each Hall input of all motor channels to ground
- Ensure that the Hall Input state is changing from high to low, by monitoring it through the diagnostics tab.
- If the input state changes, then the input is functional

Case 2: Encoder Sensors on Molex Inputs
Because Molex Encoder inputs cannot be directly monitored through the diagnostics tab, it is advised to perform a firmware update and convert the drive from a ACIM or DC model to a PMSM model. The equivalent models that be converted with a firmware upgrade are listed below:
Product | Brushless | AC Induction | Brushed |
SBLG23xx(S) | SBLG2360T(S) | SIMG2360T(S) | SDCG3260T |
SBLMG23xx | SBLMG2360T | SIMMG2360T(S) | SDCMG3260T |
FBLG23xx(E)(S) | FBLG2360T(E)(S) | FIMG2360T(E)(S) | FDCG3260T(E) |
GBLG23xx(E)(S) | GBLG2360T(E)(S) | GIMG2360T(E)(S) | GDCG3660T(E) |
| Notice: | Ensure that you are using the appropriate firmware version when performing the update. If an incompatible firmware version is used, the motor drive may crash. |
After performing the firmware update, the Encoder inputs can be tested as if they where Hall inputs. The figure below illustrates how to make the test:
- Use a wire and connect sequentially each Hall input of all motor channels to ground
- Ensure that the Hall Input state is changing from high to low, by monitoring it through the diagnostics tab.
- If the input state changes, then the input is functional

Test Explanation
Molex encoder and Hall inputs are designed to support sensors with open-collector outputs and therefore incorporate internal pull-up resistors. As a result, when an input is left floating, the motor drive reports a high state. When the sensor's open-collector output pulls the Molex input to ground, the motor drive reports a low state.
The cable used for this test connects the open-collector input to ground to change its state and verify correct operation.
